How to convert a video to MP3 on iPhone, Android or computer
Last updated 19 October 2026
Want just the sound from a video: a talk to listen to on the go, a voice note you filmed, or the music from a clip you made? The Video to MP3 converter turns a video on your device into an MP3 in your browser. The video isn’t uploaded anywhere, and there’s nothing to install.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the Video to MP3 converter in Safari.
- Tap Choose a video. iOS asks where from: Photo Library for a video in your Photos app, or Choose File for one in the Files app.
- Pick the video. For one from your Photos library, iOS may take a moment to prepare it before the conversion starts.
- When it says Done, tap Download MP3. Safari saves the file to the Downloads folder in the Files app.
On Android
- Open the converter in Chrome.
- Tap Choose a video and pick it from your gallery or your files.
- When it’s done, tap Download MP3. The file goes to your Downloads folder; open it in Files by Google or any music app.
On a computer
Drag the video onto the box, or click Choose a video. When it’s done, click Download MP3 and the file goes to your Downloads folder. It works the same in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on Mac, Windows and Linux.
Choosing a quality
| Quality | Bitrate | Size per minute | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 128 kbps | about 1 MB | Speech, podcasts, most music |
| High | 192 kbps | about 1.4 MB | Music |
| Best | 320 kbps | about 2.4 MB | Music you care about |
The MP3 can’t sound better than the video’s own sound, so a higher setting only helps if the sound is good to begin with. A screen recording, or a clip filmed on a phone in a noisy room, gains nothing from Best.
Which files work
Videos from phones and cameras (MP4 and MOV, including iPhone videos), from the web (WebM and MKV), and audio files such as M4A and WAV. The sound is decoded by your browser, so if your browser can play a file’s sound, it can almost always convert it.
Some files can’t be converted:
- Videos with no sound, such as screen recordings made without the microphone.
- Copy-protected videos, such as films bought from a store, which only play in their own app.
- Unusual sound formats an older browser can’t decode. Try the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
Why your video isn’t uploaded
Most online converters upload your video to their server, convert it there and send back the MP3. That takes time, uses your data, and leaves a copy of your video with someone else. This converter does the work on your device: it reads the video in small pieces, your browser decodes the sound, and LAME, the widely used open-source MP3 encoder, turns it into an MP3. A long video takes a little longer on an older phone, but nothing leaves your device.
Videos on TikTok, Instagram or X
For a video that’s on TikTok or Instagram rather than on your device, the TikTok to MP3 and Instagram Reels to MP3 pages save the sound straight from the link. For X, save the video with the X downloader, then convert it here.
Before you convert
Only convert videos you made or have permission to use. Turning a video into an MP3 doesn’t change who owns its sound, and music in particular is usually copyrighted.
