Saving videos to your phone or computer

iPhone and iPad

  1. Tap the download button, then Download if Safari asks.
  2. Open the Files app and go to Downloads.
  3. Tap the video, then the Share button, then Save Video to add it to Photos.

If the video opens in a new tab instead, tap the Share button there and choose Save to Files.

Android

  1. Tap the download button.
  2. The file is saved to your Downloads folder.
  3. Find it in Gallery or Google Photos, under Downloads.

If the video opens instead, tap ⋮ in Chrome, then Download.

Computer

  1. Click the download button.
  2. The file is saved to your Downloads folder.

If the video opens in a new tab, right-click it and choose Save video as.

Saved a whole carousel as a ZIP file? Tap it in Files on iPhone, or open it in Files by Google on Android, to unzip the videos. On a computer, double-click it.

Questions

Can I download GIFs?

Yes. X stores GIFs as short MP4 videos, so you get an MP4 file that plays in any video player.

What qualities are available?

Whatever the post offers: usually up to 720p or 1080p, and sometimes 4K.

Why can’t I download a video?

Posts from protected accounts, deleted posts, live broadcasts and Spaces can't be downloaded, and some videos are only available in certain countries.

Is it free?

Yes. There is nothing to pay and no account to create.

Can I download from private accounts?

No. Only public posts that anyone can watch without logging in. We never ask for your login and can't see private content.

Is it OK to download videos?

Only download videos you made yourself or have the creator's permission to save, and respect copyright when you use them. Saving a video doesn't give you the right to repost it.
